Every child learns to read differently. I deliver structured, evidence-based phonics intervention in a warm, encouraging environment, using the Sounds Write approach and tailored to exactly where your child is right now.
Sixteen years of teaching across early childhood and primary has given me a broad skillset, and a clear sense of where children most need support. That experience led me to further study: I'm a certified Sounds Write Practitioner and in the final year of a Master of Speech Pathology. Right now I bring all of that together in focused, structured phonics and literacy intervention.
Every child begins here. I get to know you and your child, hear what's been happening at home and at school, and take a full history before assessing where they're at across phonics, reading, spelling and writing. You'll leave with a clear, plain-English picture and a recommended plan.
Required first stepThe heart of what I do. Using the Sounds Write program, I teach children how letters and sounds work together through blending, segmenting and decoding, so reading stops being guesswork and starts making sense.
Ages 4 to 12Once a child can decode, the goal is reading that flows and that they understand. I build accuracy, pace and comprehension so reading becomes something your child can do without strain, and actually enjoy.
Ages 5 to 12Spelling is phonics in reverse. I help children connect sounds to spelling patterns, form letters with confidence, and build from single words to clear, structured sentences.
Ages 5 to 12For my youngest learners, strong reading starts before the first book. I build the vocabulary and phonological awareness that set 4 and 5-year-olds up to read well, helping them hear and play with the sounds in words.
Ages 4 to 5This isn't extra homework help. It's targeted, specialist intervention.
Every child starts with an assessment, because the most important step is working out exactly where reading is breaking down, and telling the difference between a gap in earlier teaching and a genuine, persistent difficulty. From there I teach explicitly and in a clear sequence, building each skill on the last, and I track how your child responds so the plan adjusts as they grow.
My teaching background means I understand how reading develops, what the classroom expects, and when a child needs something different. And because I'm completing a Master of Speech Pathology, I also recognise when a difficulty reaches beyond phonics, and when it's worth involving another professional. That judgement is the difference between practising and progressing.

I visit local schools to deliver phonics intervention where children feel most comfortable, in their own environment. Sessions can be arranged directly with the school or through parents.
Search your school, then get in touch to arrange a visit.
Don't see your school? Get in touch. I'm always happy to discuss visiting new schools.
I support children aged 4 to 12 who are finding reading and writing harder than expected, or whose parents simply want guidance on how to help.
