Common questions

Things parents often ask me

I've answered the questions that come up most often. If yours isn't here, just get in touch.

No referral is needed to contact me or book a chat. You can come to me directly. WOW Kids is an educational service, not a medical one, so there's no referral process to navigate.
WOW Kids is a private-pay service. Medicare and NDIS are not available, as this is educational literacy intervention rather than a clinical service. Some private health funds offer partial rebates for educational support, so it's worth checking with your provider. Once I complete my Master of Speech Pathology and register, clinical funding options will become available, and I'll update families at that time.
I work with children from age 4, and there's real value in starting early. The sooner reading and language foundations are built, the smoother the path into school reading. Many parents tell me they wish they'd reached out sooner. A free chat costs nothing and takes 15 minutes.
Sessions are 45โ€“60 minutes, structured around the Sounds Write approach, and tailored to your child's level and energy on the day. Parents are warmly encouraged to observe. At the end of each session I'll spend a few minutes with you covering what we worked on and giving you simple, practical things to try at home.
It varies depending on your child and their needs. Some children make wonderful progress in 8โ€“12 weeks; others benefit from ongoing support. After the initial assessment I'll give you my honest view of what to expect, and I'll revisit it regularly as your child develops.
Teacher observations are really valuable. Get in touch and we can talk through what was noticed, whether it matches what you're seeing at home, and whether an assessment makes sense. As a teacher myself, I understand exactly what's expected in the classroom and where children tend to fall behind. It costs nothing and takes 15 minutes.
Yes. I visit local Port Macquarie schools to deliver phonics intervention where children feel most comfortable. Sessions can be arranged directly with the school or through parents. Have a look at the Services page for how school visits work, or get in touch to ask about your school.
